Local Professionals Analyze Colorado’s Housing Cost Crisis
A recent BizWest roundtable with Northern Colorado developers put real numbers behind what’s driving housing costs.
Since 2015, builders say hard construction costs have increased by about $75,000. Developers also report that permits and fees can reach roughly $100,000 in Northern Colorado. By comparison, those same costs in other states average around $25,000, with even high-cost areas like Washington topping out near $45,000. Add in rising property taxes and expanding regulations, and the cost to build continues to climb.
If we’re serious about affordability, we have to take a hard look at the policies driving these costs, and where we can responsibly rein them in.
This is one of the many issues I will focus on once elected to State House District 51, bringing the voice of Loveland to the State Capitol in Denver.
